LARGE RANGE OF AUSTRALIAN PLANTS AND OTHER ORNAMENTALS IN CONTAINER

WORKING TOWARDS A MORE SUSTAINABLE SAP

Being sustainable as a horticultural company means that we apply systems and practices which aim to maintain or enhance the health of the natural resource base within the constraints of the marked based production systems.

At SAP, we care about the future and our plants are produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner, with high quality standards.

Since day one, SAP has been pro-active and planned our business in a sustainable manner:

> Sustainable water management
Taking the lead on WATER CONSERVATION
Our nursery was designed from the beginning with water conservation in mind, ensuring all runoff from the property is captured in a dam.

75% of the water used is recaptured and re-used

SAP uses Class C recycled water from ourfall pipe from the South Eastern Treatment Plant the flows to Cape Shank, allowing us to top-up the dam as required and not having to use precious potable water.
Last year 90% of water used was recycle

SAP has also taken the next step in water conservation by  encouraging our customers to be water-wise

We produce plants that need low or medium water used once established. Most of our labels will inform you of the water usage and the grey water tolerance for every specific plant.

Check our labels to find the water usage and grey water tolerance:

Plants that
tolerate grey water>
Plants that are
<sensitive to grey water

> Sustainable pest, weed and insects management:

§  Remove off site infected plants when a risky pest or an invasive weed is detected

§  Sap spot sprays with low toxicity only when necessary

§  Using resistant or tolerant plant varieties to troublesome diseases (For example, Carpet roses)

> Sustainable vegetation management  - Protecting native habitat:

§  Wind breaks

§  Retaining vegetation corridors

§  We have buffer zones between different cropping areas and adjacent to waterways to limit the off-site impact our operation could have

§  We have trees in the property which have a positive hydrological effect on a landscape scale by drawing water up from the subsoil and or water table which helps protect arable land from the disastrous effect of rising water tables and increased salinity

> Social and Economic Sustainability:

§  Fair labour practices – Providing a safe, equitable and healthy work environment

§  High standards in safety and training with all staff issued a policy and safety handbook and ongoing training

§  Supporting local community and giving preference to local businesses

§  We give preference to suppliers that also support sustainability

> RECYCLING - Waste removal and pots recycling:

§  Our potting mix is made of 85% composted pine bark, a recycled by-product from renewable timber production

§  Working together with our strategic partners, Garden City plastic, all discarded pots are recycled.

We believe that plastic is a sustainable option since it can be recycled over and over again.

Pots no longer need to go into land fill. They are 100% RECYCLABLE!
